Long pointed almost black buds open to large flowers up to 4.5″ across with high centered bloom form. The flowers are carried mostly singly on very long stems and have thick scarlet petals with yellow bases. The outer petals reflex into points while inner ones unswirl from a high point. The plants are healthy, very prickly, and have light green leathery leaves. Although originally introduced as a cut flower, ‘Kardinal 85’ is an excellent garden rose. Several sports of this rose are available including a climber and ones with various colored flowers including bright pink and vermilion orange-red.
