Green Farming is an introduction to farming in an environmentally friendly way, written for children 8-10 years old in grades 3-5. It is part of a series that  introduces young readers to the methods being developed to use the land and its resources in a sustainable way that does not damage the environment. The authors, Daniel Johnson and Samantha Johnson, are a brother and sister team that have farmed using green methods for over 20 years in Wisconsin.

After a brief description of the history of agriculture, the development of large-scale industrial farms and the problems they created, the authors introduce the concept of sustainable, or green farming. The following two chapters address the problems associated with growing crops and raising animals in the traditional way with a focus on green alternative such as biological control of pests, hydroponics, and turning manure into fuel. The authors point out the many benefits of green farming but explain that smaller yields and increased labor result in higher costs of goods.

The third chapter discuss the green innovations that allow farmer to use less water, create less pollution, save energy, improve the welfare of farm animals and wildlife, and produce a healthier, wider range of food. These include solar arrays, wind power, electric farm equipment, drip irrigation, and the use of drones. End sections provide a glossary and information on a community garden and making compost.
